KNOW THE TEST

Four skills, two components, one score report.

LanguageCert Academic is a multilevel test for academic English. Listening, Reading and Writing form the Written component; Speaking is the Spoken component. You can take both on the same day or within 14 days of each other.

01

Listening

About 40 minutes · 30 questions

Four parts played twice: short dialogues, academic conversations, a lecture with note completion and a group discussion.

02

Reading

50 minutes · 30 questions

Five tasks across academic texts, from vocabulary in context and gapped summaries to matching removed sentences and longer argumentative passages.

03

Writing

50 minutes · 2 tasks

An academic report or article of 150–200 words based on an infographic, then a 250-word discursive piece arguing or hypothesising a position.

04

Speaking

About 14 minutes · 4 parts

A short interview, a picture-based task, a discussion and a longer turn, recorded and scored against four criteria.

HOW YOU WILL PREPARE

Coaching built around the way LanguageCert marks you.

Every skill carries equal weight and your overall score is the average of the four, so one weak skill pulls the whole result down. Preparation therefore targets the parts where you are actually losing marks, not the parts you already do well. You work from your own practice test result, so every hour is spent on a specific gap rather than on general study.

  • Full practice test under exam conditions
  • Michele's feedback on Writing and Speaking
  • Score report on the 0–100 LanguageCert scale
  • Strategy for each of the four parts
  • Timing plan for the Written component
  • A clear plan for your test date

THE PRACTICE TEST

Sit a full practice test before you pay for the real one.

The practice test follows the official format: Listening with four parts, Reading across five tasks, two Writing tasks and a four-part Speaking interview. You answer online, record your speaking, and Michele marks Writing and Speaking against the official criteria so you know where you actually stand.

01

Real timing

The Written component runs to the official limits, so you learn to finish Reading and both Writing tasks on time.

02

Marked feedback

Writing and Speaking are marked by Michele, not a machine, using the same criteria the examiner applies.

03

Included, not extra

The practice test comes with your private class package. Buy the classes, sit the test, plan from the result.

LANGUAGECERT FAQ

Know what to expect.

Do I need to buy the practice test separately?

No. The LanguageCert practice test is included at no extra cost when you book a private class package with InEnglish. There is nothing else to purchase to unlock it.

Is the LanguageCert Academic test accepted for an Australian visa?

Yes. The Department of Home Affairs accepts the LanguageCert Academic test taken at a secure test centre for visas that require proof of English, including Student visas. The online version is not accepted for visa purposes, so book the test centre option. Always check the score your specific visa subclass requires on the Home Affairs website before you book.

How is the test scored?

You receive a score out of 100 for each of the four skills plus an overall score, which is the average of the four. Those scores map to a CEFR level from B1 to C2. LanguageCert reports official results in around three to five working days after the test.

What happens in my private classes?

The first session is a diagnosis: we run a practice test or review the one you have done, find where the marks are being lost and build the plan. From there, every class targets the parts costing you the most points.

How much preparation will I need?

It depends on where you start and the score you need. If you have a test date close, focus on the parts with the fastest gains — usually Writing structure and Speaking fluency. Michele will tell you honestly how much time your goal needs after the diagnosis.

NOT SURE WHERE YOU STAND?

Sit the practice test first and build the plan from your real score.
